Driven
“My films have depended successfully for years on G-Technology – I wouldn’t use anything else.”

Filming and educating

Charles Haine is a busy man. He helps to run the Digital Post Production company ‘Dirty Robber’ and is a regular on the independent film festival circuit. Key projects include his award-winning short film ‘Oblivion, Nebraska’ which landed its star, Sterling Beaumon, a part on the cult TV programme ‘Lost.’

As well as filmmaking, Charles has worked as a colourist on numerous commercials for global brands such as Honda, Nickelodeon, the History Channel and Burger King. In between all of this, Charles also finds the time to be Associate Professor for Advanced Cinematography and Advanced Editing at Los Angeles City College and to teach stereography, colour grading and visual design at Columbia College, Hollywood.

Adaptable, flexible storage

Such a hectic working life demands reliable external storage. Charles has used G-Technology for many years, including on his European Independent Film Festival shortlisted ‘Things You Should Know About A Woman,’ which depended entirely on G-Technology.

Surveying his content

Reflecting on his workflow for this film, Charles Haine said: “I shot it all on 35mm and transferred the film negative to a G-DRIVE mini at our telecine facility. It was great to show up at the facility with only a little hard drive and no big drive box or power cables to worry about. Immediately upon returning to my studio, I copied the footage over to a G-RAID so I would have redundancy and speed as I worked with multiple streams of HD Video with layers of effects.”

“The G-DRIVE mini continued to serve me well as I dealt with multiple vendors for sound, FX and outputs - shuttling my project all around town in the simplest way possible. I now have multiple G-DRIVE minis as I deal with multiple vendors to store data on the move. We couldn’t be happier with G-Technology’s performance and don’t use anything else; I frequently recommend it to my clients. The most common drive for our feature projects is the G-SPEED which we've been incredibly pleased with too.”
