High-tech filming

Carl Burke's job takes him all over the world; filming a diverse variety of footage from Hip Hop videos to a corporate film for one of the world's top banks.

Carl has invested in his own revolutionary RED digital camera capable of recording footage with four times the resolution of HDTV. Such top technology requires a back-up system of the same quality.

As well as being an expert in filming, Carl is an experienced editor with his own HD editing and grading suite.

The best technology

On shoot he will normally work with a Digital Image Technician (D.I.T.) to save two copies of his work. Carl has a G-RAID mini for back up 'in the field' and uses a G-Safe 2TB in his studio to further back-up his work.

Carl Burke said: "Backing-up my work is probably the number one most important thing I do in my work. You use the best cameras, put all those hours and creative thought into what you do, and then to lose that…it just isn't going to happen, I can't even consider it."

Carl has learnt from hearing horror stories from others about back-up systems failing and it resulting in lost work worth tens of thousands of pounds.

"The move to tapeless video systems has been great in terms of time and cost saving. But as with all digital media, correct back-up methods are key. If you haven't got a good system in place its just a matter of time before you end up loosing work, losing money and losing future jobs!"

"This is my livelihood and I want to deliver every time. I can't afford to have poor technology prevent me from creating the shots I want. That's why technology such as RED and G-Tech are a necessity," said Carl Burke.
